As part of our ongoing series, #WIMICrushWednesday, today we want to introduce you to our amazing External Relations Chair, Lena Theodore! Get to know her:
Name: Lena Theodore Majors: MPRI & Psychology | Minor: Business Administration | Certificate in Entrepreneurship Year: Senior Favorite musician/singer: The Eagles will forever and always have my heart & Literally nothing gets to me better than their music (R.I.P. Glenn Frey) Favorite song: As of right now it’d probably be “Last Shot” by Kip Moore; it’s always stuck in my head, but I love it! But as someone who loves music so much and has such a diverse taste it’s impossible for me to decide on just one all-time favorite song… please don’t make me lol Favorite album: Right now, it’s Ashley Monroe’s Sparrow album; but the one I’ll come back to time and again is - you guessed it - The Eagles, The Very Best Of album. Best live show you’ve ever seen: It has to be the Eagles (I’m obsessed) this summer in Pittsburgh. When you spend most of the show just sitting and watching because you’re in such shock and awe at the performance, it can’t get any better. They’re my all-time favorite for a reason! Dream job: If we lived in a perfect world, I’d be a musician that travels the world and performs all original content. But for now I’m more than okay with moving to Nashville and getting in as a songwriter with a publishing company (lol maybe become the next Carole King?). Go-to karaoke song: “House of the Rising Sun” by The Animals every single time. Favorite local band: It’s so embarrassing to admit that I don’t have one because I don’t go out enough… Favorite music-related memory: Hands down, when I went to see the Eagles in concert this summer in Pittsburgh. They started their intro to “Hotel California” and I was instantly filled with chills, and I couldn’t even sing along because I was in such awe… I spent the whole song crying in silence. Do you have any musical talents?: I love love love to sing! Favorite movie: Alice in Wonderland, either Disney or Tim Burton Favorite food: French fries! But realistically any potato-related food lol gimme all the carbs Favorite thing about OU: There is such a legitimate sense of community and family here; it just blows my mind. I swear, “Bobcat Family” is a real thing, and I love it! Favorite class at OU (at least so far!): MDIA 4903 – Lyric & Storytelling with Eddie Ashworth! An absolutely amazing experience and the exact thing I needed to get a confidence boost in my songwriting abilities. This was honestly one of the most practical classes I’ve taken here at OU. Biggest goal for this year (whether music-related or not!): To do everything in my power to get myself onto the SXSW trip for this spring!

As part of our ongoing series, #WIMICrushWednesday, today we want to introduce you to our wonderful Vice President/Treasurer, Catie Bugos! Get to know her:
Name: Catie Bugos Major: Recording Industry Studies / Minor: Marketing / Certificate: Social Media Year: Sophomore Favorite musician/singer: Zoë Reynolds of Kississippi, but also Movements. I love them both. Favorite song: “Thrash Unreal” by Against Me! If you want to see me lose my shit put this on. Favorite album: Not an album, but the “Outgrown Things” EP by Movements impacted me more than probably anything I’ve ever listened to. “Welcome to the Neighborhood” by Boston Manor is a close second (It just dropped and I’m in love). Best live show you’ve ever seen: Seeing Knuckle Puck for the first time in 2015, for sure. Also, Tiny Moving Parts last year because that show killed me and brought me back to life all in one night. Ughhh, but also Green Day. Dream job: Work for AP or work in any kind of live music that enables me to travel the world! Go-to karaoke song: “The Middle,” because I get to relive my horrifying middle school days everytime I sing it. Favorite local band: If we’re talking Athens-ish area, Slackluster or Hidden Places. In Cleveland, definitely Heart Attack Man. Favorite music-related memory: Going to my first warped tour in 2013 with my best friend & constantly skipping school to travel for shows in/out of state. Do you have any musical talents?: No, but I can be designated hype man at any show. Favorite movie: “Heathers” Favorite food: Sushi! Role model: Joan Jett! She pushed to give women in rock a voice despite it being a male dominated industry. She is such a badass and I’d give up an arm to meet her. Favorite thing about OU: The sense of community and support across campus is so cool. Also, the Athens music scene is crazy! Favorite class at OU (at least so far!): Media 1020 with Owen Lowery. He encourages all his students to step out of their comfort zone and to not be afraid to try new things in the wild world of media! Biggest goal for this year (whether music-related or not!): Land a dank summer internship + put on a successful WIMI showcase in the spring! Presenting our new blog series: #WIMICrushWednesday! Every Wednesday we will feature another member of WIMI, starting this week with our awesome President/Operations Chair, Diana Buchert! Get to know Diana:
Name: Diana Buchert Major: Recording Industry Studies Minor: Marketing Certificate: Social Media Year: Senior Favorite musician/singer: Paramore, hands down. Lorde and Jack White are very, very close. Favorite song: “Scarlet Fields” by the Horrors. Been my favorite song for 7 years. Favorite album: Ughhhh this is hard, probably Melodrama by Lorde. That album has impacted me more than any others within the last two years. Lorde, if you’re reading this, thank you and I love you. Best live show you’ve ever seen: Lorde at Bonnaroo in 2016 blew my mind into the next dimension. I’d say Death from Above at Riot Fest 2016 and St. Vincent at FMMF in 2015 are very close behind. Dream job: Working in the live music industry in London Go-to karaoke song: “Fergalicious” by Fergie. I don’t know why. It’s fun. Favorite local band: In Athens, I’ve loved Blond the most (they don’t play much anymore, sadly). In my hometown of Cincinnati, definitely Lung. Favorite music-related memory: Meeting Paramore at Bonnaroo is definitely up there. After that would be the absolutely BONKERS first night that Lobsterfest had this year with JPEGMAFIA and Injury Reserve. I have never been more ecstatic during a show I’ve booked. Do you have any musical talents? I’m pretty good at making playlists and hyping people up about shows I book. Favorite movie: “Just Friends” Favorite food: Cheez-its, but if we’re talking full meals, definitely Skyline Chili. Role model: Hayley Williams. She’s paved the way for women to take leading roles within the music industry for so many years, and she’s expanded to become a fashion and beauty icon in so many ways. She’s also so real – after news of her divorce and band hardships went public, she kept trudging along and inspired her fans to do the same. Mad respect. Favorite thing about OU: The local music scene is so cool and supportive. There’s so much amazing talent! Favorite class at OU (at least so far!): I love my Virtual Reality classes with Chip Linscott. He encourages interesting discussions in class, and the content is just so cool. I’m excited to see where VR takes us. Biggest goal for this year (whether music-related or not!): Get a big-name WIMI session (like Hayley Williams) (I’ve talked about her a lot I know), AND get a local showcase going of non-male talent in the area. Oh and get a job after graduation lol. |
